“Go Green” – don’t you produce them in China and fly / ship them half way around the globe? Unfortunately I only found out after I ordered from american shutters.

Thank you for your comment Ingo,

All timber used by local shutter manufacturers is imported into South Africa so unfortunately there is always the ‘transport versus green’ aspect to grapple with should you want to install timber shutters in your home, but at least timber is completely biodegradable and has much less of an environmental impact than many other building materials.

Shipping, the form of transport we use, is one of the most cost effective ways to transport goods with minimal carbon footprint. But even though we try to use sustainable timber products from certified Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) plantations, shipping has an impact, and that’s why we try to offset our carbon miles by supporting green initiatives in South Africa.

In 2009 we planted 100 trees in disadvantaged communities of the Western Cape, which you can read about here: In 2010 we supported an urban green lung in Century City, Cape Town, which you can read about here: We will be planting 100 trees in September 2011 during National Arbour month in our on-going support of Food & Trees for Africa (FTFA) to help improve disadvantaged communities of the Western Cape and increase awareness of the value of trees.

Our products are of the highest quality, designed to withstand the harsh weather conditions and outlast inferior similar products on the market. This not only saves homeowners the hassle of having to replace blinds and shutters after only a few years, but also minimises unnecessary waste.

We hope that you will be happy with your The Normandy shutters, which are manufactured from durable Kiri wood, a rapid growth tree preferred by environmentalists. We trust that in years to come, when you look at your beautiful shutters, you will be glad that you chose top quality products for your home.

    Yours sincerely,

    Steve and Karina Palmer
