From the runway into your home this spring

It’s flirty, fresh, feminine and according to the Pantone Color Institute, Radiant Orchid is the colour of 2014, whether on the catwalk or in your home. A mix of fuchsia and purple, they say it inspires happiness, confidence and love. We agree because we simply love the pop of positive energy it gives any space.

1. This all-white bathroom with AMERICAN shutter’s Decowood shutters is the perfect canvas for the 2014 colour of the year accent.

Used sparingly as demonstrated in this modern white bathroom, it lifts the space and is simply beautiful. Incorporate it into a decor scheme as its name suggests by putting a single stem of orchids in a vase or be bolder and incorporate more permanent finishes such as light fittings and fabrics in the colour.

2. From the fashion runways to the shelves of every decor and interior design store, Radiant Orchid is hot this year.

It complements olive green, hunter greens, turquoise, teal and light yellows beautifully and lifts neutral palettes such as beige, grey or white.

While Radiant Orchid takes colour of 2014, Dazzling Blue earned top position as the colour of spring 2014. Dubbed the ‘peppy shade of cobalt’, Dazzling Blue is one of the vivid colours in this spring’s colour trends. An interesting colour because it has the potential to be both energising and calming at the same time and is as versatile in its application, at home in a variety of spaces from the bathroom to the kitchen, from the living area to the bedroom.

3. Dazzling blue kitchen cabinets really stand out against the grey granite tops and white Decowood shutters.

Because of how easy it is to pair with other colours, Dazzling Blue is a consistent favourite for many designers and home decorators, despite the coming and going of trends. Paired with another spring 2014 colour, Placid Blue, it creates a cool, relaxing space ideal for spring and summer indoor-outdoor living. Used in a colour scheme with white or off-white it creates a beach or nautical theme.

4. Dazzling Blue looks good inside the home and on the runways.

The spicy warm red-pitched Cayenne can be partnered with neutrals and Placid Blue for a serene space or used with another spring 2014 colour, Freesia for an exciting colour palette.

5. Placid Blue and Cayenne make perfect bedfellows in this serene bedroom with white Decowood shutters.

Now considered the new neutral, green in its many shades is as fresh as it is elegant. Hemlock is the in-green this spring and we love its soothing youthful energy in this bedroom.

6. The light filtered through the blinds shows off this beautiful green in all lights.

The toasty, nutty warm tone of Sand is this spring’s neutral along with Paloma Grey. Introduce the colour through natural materials such as bamboo, wood, coir and wicker.  An ideal colour for spaces that have a integrated or seamless indoor-outdoor flow like the one shown in the below image.

7. Exterior timber shutters are great for enclosed patio and braai areas. Another alternative for style and security is our aluminium Security Shutter range.
